We’re Not Wired This Way. How to Change Your Brain.

Life can really get us down. At times it will even kick us when we’re already there. Depression and anxiety may seem like a lifetime prison sentence but it doesn’t have to be this way. Perhaps we can change the way we’re wired?
 
If you think back to when your depression or anxiety started, what were some common symptoms your experienced at the time? According to Dr. Kirsten Tillisch of UCLA School of Medicine, one of the most common is an upset stomach.
 
“Time and time again, we hear from patients that they never felt depressed or anxious until they started experiencing problems with their gut,” Dr. Tillisch stated. To test this theory, Tillisch and a team of specialists conducted a study. A controlled group of 36 women ate yogurt. Some yogurts had probiotic strains added to the mix.
 
Using MRI scans, results confirmed that those who didn’t eat the probiotic-rich yogurt had a decrease in activity throughout the brain. The areas that suffered most were the insula (emotions) and somatosensory cortex (bodily function).
